FORTH FAT 2018...

FORTH FAT 2018

Friday; Day 1,  Brewery visit, Archerfield...

May holiday weekend and FORTH FAT 2018...
Been a long long winter and East Lothian did not escape many days of cold easterly onshore winds, `Beast from the East` storms that ravaged the coast, robbed a lot of our beaches of sand, stripping them to bare rock,  and delivered a lot of superb driftwood planks!,
True to the east coast in Spring it always seems to deliver the good weather and big skies come FORTH FAT Fatbike Gathering every year and this year the heat and sun was out as folk started arriving for a long weekend of coastal cycling and a general good time,

Friday afternoon a dozen or so of us rode out to Archerfield Walled Garden and had a quick tour of the Knops Brewery, then a pint or two out in the sunshine...

Back to NB and sandy woodland trails...

Friday evening at Steampunk Cafe and pizza from Big Blu...

Nice...

Then a couple of pints at the Ship Inn...

Lewis stopped over at my house and riding back on the John Muir Way we had a superb night ride as the light faded to the west and it was quiet with no wind...

Day2; Saturday; Subs visit...

40 riders turned up for Saturdays pilgrimage to the WW2 midget sub wrecks out in Aberlady Bay...

Sitting in the sun, warming our backs and enjoying the good banter...

Inland and return to Archerfield Walled Garden for coffee/tea/beer before returning to the coast and making our way along to NB...

Stunning weather!...

Sunday; Day3; Seacliff and Tyninghame woods...

20 riders today for the ride to Seacliff and Tyninghame and it was even hotter!...

Always impressive views here summer or winter...

Flat calm today the sea was like a milk pond...

Crossing the Car Rocks this year was trickier than ever with no sand in the usual places to give short rest bites between the technical sections, and i was really impressed with he standard of riding by everyone,

Everyone through the rocks we re grouped at Peffersands and did a spot of dune surfing...

onwards in the heat and into the woods where `Secret Trail` waited...

Problem with leading a group is you don`t get much chance to film everyone else,  but i would return to the woods on Monday so will see film from here further down the page,

The John Muir Way would take us back past NB Law where some headed up to soak up the amazing views while the rest of us headed down to the coast and had ice cream and lazed in the sun...

NB was packed with day visitors and some cool old cars turned up...

Riders started to say their farewells and drifted off and with work and other commitments just Mike would be out riding on the Monday...

Monday; Day 4; JMW and trails to Tyninghame...

A few beers on Sunday evening and up early again next morning and out on the JMW again and returned to Tyninghame...

Riding with a rider as energetic as Mike is always fun and makes for a good film, esp when you can include his sense of humour...

fun wee film;

Thanks all who travelled from near and far to enjoy the weekend and maybe see you again next time or in the future...
